Region Dobrich - short description:
Dobrich municipality is situated in the Dobrich District, Northeastern Bulgaria. Dobrich is situated in the Danube plain on the the Dobroudja table-land. The contemporary conditions determine the dual character of Dobrich - the town is a center of the municipality with the same name as well as a headquarters of the administration of Dobrich municipality. Its role as an administrative, economic and service center of the region defines its influence and connections with the other towns and villages.Dobrich is the second biggest economic center in Northeastern Bulgaria after Varna.
Climate and relief:
The territory of Dobrich is a part of the Danube plain, which is characterized with flat and smooth hills, wide valleys with gentle slopes cut up by the valley of the Dry river, which passes through the town.
Dobrich is situated on a plain terrain and the climate is moderately continental (part of the European continental climate area). The average annual temperature is 10.2C. The spring is comparatively cool, the autumn is warm because of the influence of the Black Sea. During the winter, there is a stronger influence of the Northeastern air masses.
The region is characterized with high humidity of the air and poor rainfalls. The summer maximum of the rainfalls is in June, and the winter maximum - in February.
Although the altitude is small, the snow-cover stays for 2,5 months. The typical Northeast winds during the winter cause the formation of thick snow-drifts.
The main wind transference is from Northwest, with high speed of the winter winds and low speed of the summer winds.
Infrastructure and transport:
The road and communication network ensure the access to all points of the district and the rest part of Bulgaria. The territory of the district is parted by motor roads - to the Black Sea coast, Romania and international roads to Poland, Ukraine and Russia.
The railway station connects Dobrich with the capital, the sea coast and the European countries.
Dobrich municipality is embraced by two regional telephone networks. The town is connected by an optic cable with Varna and Silistra, which ensures quality telephone, mobile and Internet connections with the country and abroad.
